The speakers at the annual meeting of the Women's National Council, held last night, included Miss Rosevear, Y.W.C. A.; Mrs. A. fi> Atkinson, Society for the Protection of Women and: Children; Mrs. Gill and Mrs. J. C. Andersen, Free Kindergarten; Mrs. Stables, Women's International League; Mrs. Henderson, Women Prisoners' Welfare League; Miss Coadj Women Teachers' Association. Each lady, wibliin five1 minutes, gave an interesting resume of the work of her" society, and it was a matter of regret that time did not permit the representatives oi some of the other affiliated societies to,speak also. The good work of the officials—Miss Goad, president ; Miss Magill, hon. secretary • and Miss Messenger, ' hon. treasurer —was very highly commended, and votes of thanks were passed to all officials and helpers of the council. The officials for the Coining >'eai' ni'e; Miss Coad, president (re-elected); Mrs. F. Chapman, Miss England, Mrs. J. C. Andersen, vicepresidents (re-elected); hon. secretary, Miss Magill; hon. treasurer, Miss Messenger; and hon. auditor, Mr. Ramsay, all re-elected.

Mi's. J. P. Luke has returned from a visit to Napier.
Mrs. M. P. Cameron and Miss Camel' oh have left for a visit to Rotorua.
.Mr. and Mrs. Neville Renaud, of New Plymouth, are the guests of Mrs. D. Armstrong at Petone. •
Mrs. M. J. Forde, president of tho Wellington Housewives' Union, is at present visiting Southland, and will be absent from Wellington for about tlireo weeks.
Mrs. Robert Wynyard and the Misses Wynyard have returned to DevonjSort, Auokland, after a visit to Wellington.
, Mrs. Meadowcroft, who has spent the summer at Eastbourne, has returned' to her residence in Mount-street.
Mrs. S. E. 0. Snow and Mrs. M. J. Forde have.been appointed by the Terrace School Committee to represent that body on the Wellington School- Committees' Association.
A very high tribute was paid at the annual meeting of the Wellington Red Cross yesterday to the work of several officials. Miss Sybil Nathan, M.B.E.', who has been honorary secretary ever since the war work began, was specially commended for her consistent and efficient work. Mr. T. Young, as chairman, was mentioned with high praise, also Mr. Joseph Joseph as hon. treasurer, and Mrs. Kinniburgh as a member of the committee. Great regret was expressed at losing the services of the two latter. The society Was in a fortunate position in having secured Mr. S. E. Wright as a successor to Mr. Joseph in the treasurer's work.
A children's entertainment and afternoon tea ' will be held in St. Mark's Church School to-morrow at 3 o'clock. At.B p.m. there will also be a children's entertainment and an exhibition and talk on War Trophies by the Eev.. C. F. Askew.
There were present at the ordinary monthly meeting of tile Ladies' Auxiliary of the Wellington Boys1' Institute and S. A. Rhodes' Home for Boys yesterday afternoon Mesdames Hislop- (president, in the N chair), Moorhouse (hon. president), Bell (hon. treasurer), Christie, M'KerroW,, Moore, Remington, Troup, Mowatt, Torrance, Hamilton', Cotton, Stanton, Niven, and Parton (hon. secretary), and Misses Gilchrist and M'Leod. The_ reports from the matron, director, Visiting Committee, and treasurer were satisfactory, and the following ladies were appointed the Visiting Committee for the ensuing month : .Mesdames His lop, M'Gowan, and M'Kerrow. It was resolved to hold a jumble sate for the purpose of raising funds for the boys' sports and educational departments, and gifts of any kind will be gratefully received at the Institute Building or by the hon. secretary.
The Jazz Evening Chib had a successful opening night in the Alexandra Hall, and members and friends spent an enjoyable evening. The decorations were most effective, and a feature was the excellent music.'
The wedding of Miss Phyllis I. Frew, only daughter of Mr. and Mre. J. Frew, Hataitai, to Mr. Herbert Cromwell Culver, second son of Mrs. Culver, Welling-' ton, and the Jate Mr. W. J. Oulvej;, Palmerston North, took place at the Presbyterian Church, Kent-terrace, when the Rev. Dr. J. X .Elliott performed the ceremony. The bride, who was given aWay by her father, wore a . tailored nigger-brown costume, with a. saxe blue hat, her bouquet being of roses, sweet peas, and maidenhair fern, with pink satin streamers. Miss Eileen Coffin was the bridesmaid, and wore a navy costume and picture hat, her bouquet being of roses and autumn leaves. Mr. S. Head was the best man. After, tho cevemonv a reception was held at the residence of the bride's parents. Later Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Culver left for Napier.
At the monthly meeting of the Residential Nursery Committee Mrs. James Findlay, M.8.E,, was granted leave of absence on account of her approaching visit to England. All were enthusiastic about her fine work, and the energy and resource that she has displayed:. As treasurer she has done much to pijt the work of the nursery on a. good financial basis, and inspired others to work on the same lines. Mrs. Findlay. lias not missed a meeting since she became treasurer— and there have been many special one 3— and her business-like method's are evidenced in the able manner in which all the transactions have been carried out.
