Charged with the theft'at Wanganui on 31st December of the sum of £3 15s from Wanganui Returned Soldiers' Association, of which body he was secretary, George Beckett appeared befor* Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day. Beckett, who was represented by Mr. H. F. O'Leary, was remanded to appear at Wanganui tomorrow, bail being fixed at £200. Messrs. 15. Johnston and Co. will sell the stock-in-trade of the "Paris Millinery Salon," 196 i Lambton-quay, at 10.30 a.m. to-morrow, and at 2 p.m., carpets, in their rooms. On "Wednesday, at 10.30 a.m., they will sell furnituro in their rooms,'and at 2 p.m., 2 motor-cars, 1 motor-cycle,: and Hcc&ssones, at 126, v lvian-st. • The nowly-formed Wellington Chemical Society (Wellington Philosophical Society, Chomfcal section) will hold its first meeting to-night at Victoria College.
