PERSONAL MATTERS
The Hon. W. Downie Stewart, Minister of Internal Affairs, has returned to Wellington. The Hon. J. G. Coatea, Minister of Public Works, is now in the Taranalri district, and will probably return to Wellington on Monday night. The Hon. G. J. Parr, Minister of Health and Education, will leave Welling&n to-night on a visit to Dunedin to examine into' the conditions obtaining at the Medical School, in connection with which large demands are being made for increased expenditare for additional accommodation and equipment. The Minister will lay the foundationstone of the new physics building, in connection with the University. On Tuesday next he is to deh'ver the annual Scott,commemoration address at Oamaru at the ceremony commemorating the anniversary of Captain Scott's death in the Antarctic. In this ceremony all the High School pupils and the public of Oamaru will take part. Mr. Parr is also to lay the foundation-stone of the iuw Phillipstown School, Christchurch, &nd tj confer with the Technical School Board on various matters.
Mi. H. B. Bower, who recently resigned the charge of the District Office of the Labour Department, relinquished his duties yesterday, after about fifteen years spent it. the-Civil Service. Mr. Bower intends to take up famine at Winton
The appoiab.-n.ent of Messrs. R. Dairoch and W. H. Dentori to the Board of Governors o! Wellington College is remarked with appreciation by the annual report of the Wellington College Old Boys' Association, both, being old boya of the college;
Mr. W. G. M'Donald, chairman of the Board of Trade, who has been in the South Island with the Tariff Revision Commission, will return to Wellington to-morrow, and will be here for a week. He will then go to Auckland -with the Commission.
Mr. C. W. Beattie, of the head office of the Customs Department, and Mr. Wj P. Kelleher, of the Wellington office, were met last evening by their colleagues, who bade . them farewell prior to their transfer to Christchurch and Auckland respectively, and received presentations. •
Mr. H. W. Grant, who has filled a position in the head office of the New Zealand Railways for some time past, has been transferred to the District Traffic Manager's office, Invercargil], and left for the South last night.
Old Boys of '. Wanganui Collegiale School entertained the ex-Principal of the school {Mr. W. Empson) and Mrs. Empson at dinner in Wellington last night. Mr. D. J. Willis presided 'over *.. gathering of between 30 and 40 old boys, many of whom-had come to Wellington for the Occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Empson leave for England by the Tainui on 11th May.
Mr. James Dpoiey, a member of the .Chief Accoontiit's »ffi(a, New Zealand Eailways, has been transferred to Christchurch, and left for the South last tight. Prior to Ms departure, Mr. Dooley was presented by Mr. A. D. C. Gosman, on behalf of the Chief Accountajit's staff, witn a memento, and assured of _ the esteem in which he was held by his comrades.
