CONTROL OF MARKETS

STINGING YORKSHIRE COMMENT

BRITISH GOVERNMENT "FLEECING."

(DHIIBD PRSS3 ASSOCIATION.—COPIRISHT.)

(ACmAUAN - HJW ZEALAND CAILB AB39CMTIBN.)

(Received. April 30, 11 a.m.)

LONDON, 29th April. Commenting on Mr. Hughes's statement that he js coming to England to consult the British Government regarding wool, the Yorkshire Observer state© : "Mr. Hughes would do better by coming to Bradford, leaving Downing-street and' Whitehall/to deal with matters which they understand, and which do not includ« the wool trade. Their sole interest to-day seems to be the taxation of th© last vestigo o? vitality out of the industry. They know much about fleecing, but nothing about wool. If Mr. Hughes consulted representative Bradford- trades, ho would be convinced of the benefits of a free, open market, and would realise that Australia's and Bradford's interests are inseparably linked, and that neither of those interests can, be served by am attempt to dictate the values of any; commodity whatever, simply because in the end the ultimate user has the last word, andl he cannot be coercedi."
