THE HOSPITALS
(M TSLEGRAPH.—PRBSS ASSOCIATION.)
DUNEDIN, This Day. The Hospitals Commission lesumdd its sittings this morning. Dr. Ferguson, Dean of the Medical School, said, in regard \to Government contributions to hospital boards, that it appeared impossiblei to treat all on an equal footing, unless hospital districts and rating were so arranged that the revenues of local bodies were fairly proportioned! to the hospital requirements of a district. The Dunedin Hospital had an extra claim for special treatment, as it was the training school for the medical profession of the Dominion, and provided house surgeons for other hospitals. He thought the proposal to establish private wards in public hospitals had much to recommend it, as there had been considerable abuse of the present system by patients who should be treated outside. He thought it desirable that the Government should have direct representation on the Otago Board 1, The Commission will visit Karitane Hospital this aiternoon.
