[Last month a deputation of coal owners told Mr. W. M. Hughes that, unless coal wae decontrolled, it would mean the permanent loss of the South American trade, and would prejudice the New Zealand. trade. Mr. Hughes replied that the Government was eager to relinquish control of coal, or any other commodity, as soon as possible. He added that New Zealand was entitled to 50,000 tons monthly after local requirements were satisfied. Shipping circles viewed with satisfaptipn the strong representations made. Referring to Mr. Hughes's mention pf N.ew Zealand's coal, a shipping authority declared that under Govern'--.ment decontrol New Zealand would receive far. greater supplies than previously.]
