The match Australia against Canterbury was continued to-day in fine weather. The light, though not perfect, was better than on Saturday. Ban6ford and Pellew resumed batting, and the rnns came slowly, but with his score at 16, Pellew stepped in front of a ball from M'Lachlaa and retired ibw. 218—7—16.
Forssberg, the newcomer, took no risks, but with 10 to his credit was given out lbw to Sandman. 262—8—10.
Meanwhile Bansford had been, playing sound cricket, watching the ball carefully, and smacking anything loose, his tally showing a fair number of fours. Asher did not stay long. He stepped out to Sandman and was smartly stumped. Ironmonger joined RansfoTd, and it soon became evident that his main object was not runs, but to keep up his wicket. Bansford manoeuvred cleverly to get tlio howling, and generally succeeded. At the same time lionmonger hit lustily at all loose stuff, and soon ran into double figures- Finally he was caught by Patrick off Read for 20. Canterbury's score was reached after an hour's batting. Bansford reached his century after an hour and 45 minutes' batting. The innings closed for 356, extras being 37. Bowling analysis: Sandman, six for 140; M'Lachlan, two for 74-; Read, one for 84; Blunt, none for 7; Hayes, none for 14. , At the luncheon adjournment Canterbury had scored 17 for no wickets— Blunt 9, Brosnahan 8.
