THE LATE MR. GIBBONS
The remains of the late Mr. J. R. Gibbons, chief reporter of the Evening Post, were interred at Karori yesterday. The funeral was. attended by many prominent citizens as well as by the largest and most-representative gathering of journalists an dex-journalists seen in Wei--lin^ton. The activities of Mr. Gibbpns in yachting and other sporting circles in the. early days were recalled by the presence of many fellow-enthu-siasts of those days. Among those,present were the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke), Mr. A. Gray, K.C., the Hons. W. C. F. Carncross (Speaker of the Legislative Council), Mark Cohen, M.L.C., and W. H. Triggs, M.L.C., the Rev. J. Kennedy Elliott, the Rev. J. Pitowski, Captain Bollons (Marine Department), Mr. E. N. G. Poulton (representing the Minister for Justice, and himself an ex-journalist), Mr. C. Wilson (Parliamentary Librarian). The Hansard staff was represented by Messrs. J. M. Geddis and Fred Weston, and the New Zealand Press Association by Messrs. W. H. Ataok, F; H. Morgan, and R. Lindsay Buick, who is also chairman of the Press Gallery. ,Mr. E. H. Melville represented the staff of the New Zealand Herald, Mr. .S. Waters that- of the Christchureh Press, Mr. Malcolm Ross the staff of the Otago Daily Times, and Mr. C. E. Wheeler the Lyttelton Times. There were very large attendances of the staffs of the three Wellington dailies, including Mr. ,J. Parker, editor of The Post, Mr. C. W. Earle, editor of the Dominion, and Mr. R. A. Loughnan, asosciate-editor of the Times. ' The "pro- v prietor,s of T|je Post were represented by Messrs. Louis, Walter, Percy, and Len Biundell.
Master Kingston Gibbons, the son of the deceased, Captain R. H. Gibbons, Messrs. Frank and Fred' Gibbons, Mr. Canning, and Mr. Pulsford were the chief mourners; and the . pall-bearers were representatives of <the various departments of the Evening Post staff. The Rev. W. Faocourt, vicar of St. Thomas's, Newtown, conducted the buriel service. The , many wreaths sent included several from press organisations and newspaper staffs throughout tho Dominion,
