LIFE-SAVING DISPLAY
IN AID OF THE BOYES FUND.
Mr. T. Shields, the well-known swimmer and member of the Life-Saving Association, gave an 'exhibition of swimming, diving, and life-saving at the Lower Hutt on Saturday afternoon. The great need for a life-saving class at Lower Hutt vas emphasised by the Mayor of the borough ,(Mt. E: P. Riehworth), who recalled the fact that there had been three drowning fatalities in the Hutt Iliver within three months. Mr. Shields strongly endorsed what had been said, and volunteered to do all he could to help the scheme and give the necessary instruction. The clever exhibition of watercraft by Mr. Shields vsas much appreciated, and earned the congratulations of all present. In the course of afternoon tea given by the Mayor at. Cotton's Tearoom, the announcement was made that the sum of £24 had beencolleotod for the fund for the widow and family of tho late Mr. William Boyes, who loat his life recently through trying to save a littlo gijl irom drowning in the Hutt River. A cheque for £5 has since been, received from Mr. Fredk. Cooper as a donation to the fund and £1 from Mr. C. J. Norwood.
