ROWING
WELLINGTON WINS MOTHES
SHIELD
A very successful rowing regatta, under the auspices of the Wellington. Association, was held on Saturday afternoon, to decide the winner of the Mothes Shield. The Wellington Bowing Club was suooessful in annexing the shield with 34 points (six fi*ste and two seconds). The Star Boating Club was second with 20 points (two firsts and five seconds), and the Petone Olub thirdwith 9 points (one first and two seconds). The Wellington Olub is to be congratulated on its success, after its poor showing in recent inter-club regattas. After the last rac«, Mir. P. W. Mothes (donor of the Shield), presented the trophy, and congratulated the winners oil their success. He hoped the shield would move from club to dub during the next few years. Mr. SymoEds (captain of the Wellington Olub) TSplied, and the gathering concluded with cheers for the winners and the donor of the trophy. ( Detailed results of the various races follow :—

Herd (2), W. P. Bobb (bow), 0. Wobb (cox), 2. After a false start, the crews were sent away well, Petone No. 1 and Star taking the lead. With half a mile gone Star took the lead from Potone, but were soon overhauled by Wellington, who went ahead easily, leaving Star and Petone to fight out second place. Two lengths separated the first two crews, with Petone a canvas behind Star.

Wellington broke away at the start, and wore not recalled, soon taking a great lead. At the Clyde-quay Wharf Petone and Star came up, arid a hard finish resulted 1 in Petone winning by a canvas, with Star half a length behind Wellington. Taylor (oox), 2. Wellington took an early lead, and won easily by two lengths. Star and Petone fought out a hard race for second plaoe,. the former getting the decision by half a length. Leslie (2), P. Mawson (bow), A. Mawson (cox), 2. Star established a lead early, and came across from tne outside position, winning easily by four lengths. After a series of collision* with Petome, Wellington came away, and got second place by half a length. Maiden Pairs, one mile—Wellington Rowing Olub—J. Dalgleish (str.), J. Thomas (bow), H. Bognuda (cox)— lj Star Boating Club—L. J. Loftus (str.), F. B. Anyon (bow), C. L. Webb (cox)— 2; Star got away at the start, with Wellington No. 1 close behind. With half a mile gone a bare length s¶ted the four crews, but Wellington and Star drew ahead, the former'taking a coni\ fortable lead. Wellington won by three lengths, with Petone half a length behind Star.

All four crews (Petone started two) were sent away together, and kept within half a length to within half a mile from home. Here Petone and Wellington went ahead a little, but Petone No. 1 and Staj soon came up again. The four crews crossed the line within half a length of one another, Star getting the verdict from Petone No. 2, who stopped rowing just before the flag fell, by two feet. Maiden Sculls, one mile.—Wellington Rowing Club—C. Syraonds—l; Star. Boating Club—F. G. Oborn—2. Petone did not start. Won easily by Symonds, who led all the.way. Junior Pairs, one mile.—Wellington Rowing Club—H. Hyde (str.), A. Macauley (bow), Bognuda (cox) —1; Star Boating Club—W M'Gowan (str.), W. G Nelson (bow), C. L. Webb (cox)— 2. Petone did not start, but Wellington se-nt out two crews. From a good' start Wellington gradually drew ahead, and with -three-quarters of a mile gone led by a good length. Star spurted gamely at tho finish, but were unable to catch Wellington, who won by half a length. Wellington's No. 2 crew did not finish.!
