A NEW PICTURE THEATRE.
Island Bay now has a picture theatre of its own since the' Universal Theatre was formally opened by Councillor J. O. Shorland on Saturday night. For some months past the hall has been in use as a skating rink, under the management of Mr. A. L. Power, who decided latterly to carry out such alterations and to redecorate the hall in such manner as would bring it into line with what the public expects in a modern picture hall. Mr. Power has made arrangements for a tri-weekly series of programmes from the Universal, Fox, and'other British and Continental studios, and intends to show only films of wholesome and instructional types. The present programme includes "The Virgin of Stamboul," a bright comedy, 'and the first episode of "The Vanishing Dagger." A complete change of films will be made to-morrow night.
