AUDITOR'S REPORT
At a later stage in the meeting, a report from the independent auditor (Mr. A. T. ClaTk) employed .by the council on the council's balance-sheet for 1919-20 was received. It stated that the balance-sheet had again been returned by the Audit Department without any lag. This was the fourth year in succession iv which such a Tesult had been obtained. Bents outstanding at 31st March, 1930, were £1477 2s 7d, an against £610 17s 8d at 31st March, 1919. The- amount outstanding was considerably larger than last year, but it had since been paid. Many of the rents were payable in advance, and this accounted for the apparently large increase. Outstanding water accounts • amounted to £3404- 5s lid at 31st March, 1920; as against £4031 Is 5d in the preceding year.. This was again satisfactory. There were no arrears 'Calling for special mention. In his report last year ho drew attention to the number of small accounts outstanding in connection with .this department. A considerable reduction had taken place this year, and steps were being taken to place this department on a cash basis as far as possible. The outstanding accounts had now nearly all been collected except sundry accounts for law costs. Steps should bo taken to recover these.
