MARINE DEPARTMENT.

The Marine snd Inspection of Machinery Department, in conjunction with the Government steamers Hinemoa and Tutanekai, and the training ship Amokura, held its annual picnic at Day's Bay last week. The weather was ideal, and a most enjoyable day was spent by all. The party travelled to and from the Bay in the Terawhiti, kindly lent by the Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd. There was no lack of competition in connection with the lengthy sports programme, the results of which are given below. The thanks of the committee aTe due to all who contributed to the prize fund. In addition to the official programme, some further events were arranged for the Amokura boys, and much amusement Was afforded by the "frog" and "wheelbarrow" races. Results :—

• Amokura Handicaps : Senior, Graham 1, Somerville 2; junior, Smitheon 1, Gaby 2. Office championship, 100 yds: Collins 1, Lawrence 2. Post 1, Miss L. Post 2. Tug-of-war : Hinemoa team 1. Amokura swimming handicap, 50yds : Subritsky 1, Baumen 2. Swimming championship, 50yds (open) : Kirkland 1, Westrupp 2. Office handicap, 100 yds : Millier 1, Collins 2. SOyds race (for men over 45) : Alves 1, Hood 2. Three-leeged race : Miss Post and Mr. M'Donald. 1, Mrs. Cox and Mr. Cameron 2.
