HENDRY SELECTED FOX ENGLISH TOUR

SYDNEY, 27th February. Hendry has been selected as fifteenth man in place of Kelleway for the English tour.

The batting of the Australians on Saturday was patchy—six of the team only scored 22—but, aa usual for Australia, the batting position was well saved 'by other members of the team. Oil this occasion/C. ,G. Macartney and J. M. Gregory judiciously picked out tl>e loose stuff and scored rapidly off the English sestet. The partnership added 198 runs to the total, which would have been a poor one without these two contributions.., Macartney, "the Governor-Gen-eral" of the side, has been out of Test cricket since the First Test, and he signalised his re-appearance by notching ■ 170, the "highest individual score hit up by England's opponents this tour. The New South. Wales-crack in 27 •■'linings for Tests has scored 865 runs, and has an average of 33. J.M. Gregory has performed brilliantly this_ tour with bat and ball.. Gregory, in six innings, has shopped out the linglish attack for 434 .runs, an average of 72.33. England has made a poor start in,'the second innings, aod to-night's news should se© the end in sight, with ah easy victory coining to Australia. E. li. Wilson, who has been well-named "Cables,' 1 is not adding to the lustre of English cricket by setting the wires in motion regarding the trivialities which have taken place this tour. The latest incident will strengthen Lord-Hawke's argument at the annual meeting of the M.C.C., when he intends to bring the matter before the governing, body. Headren was again conspicuous in his stwling' work on, the boundary during the toiirid heat of Saturday. His fielding is .reminiscent of that of Syd. Gregory, who in his early days of Test cricket had an opponent in^this department in J. Briggs, the Lancashire professional. It lias been stated in bygone years that Briggs on one occasion asked his father what he thought of "Syd's" fielding. The answer was complete: "Not so good as my boy Johnny."
