SHOPKEEPERS' DEPUTATION

The effect of the Shops and Offices ■Amendment Act, 1920, on the small shopkeeper, and a request for a return to the old order of things, will be placed before the Minister for Labour (the Hon. G. J. Anderson) by a deputation on Monday morning. Prior to the operation of the amendment, tho small shopkeeper, except in trades exempted from the provisions of the Act, was at liberty to reniain open after 6 p.m., provided that assistants werenot employed, andathe closing hours were decided by requisition of a majority of the shopkeepers. It is claimed by the small suburban ehopkeepers that business has been seriously affected by the new law, The deputation will assemble at the Syd-ney-street entrance to Parliament' Buildings" at 10 a.m.
