PARAMOUNT AND ARTCRAFT.
A tale: of ths ocean is unfolded in "Below the Surface," shown for the first time at the Paramount and Artcraft Theatres last night before crowded! houses. Hobart Bosworth is featured in the role of Martin Flint, a lovable seasalt, father of a son who is enamoured! of a city visitor, whose stay in the littla fishing village is for no good purpose. The search for a sunken treasure is the T>ait which draws the girl to the boy, for he is an expert diver, and fits in. with: ' her schemes. Old. man Flint ; saves, his■ son;s honour at a. big cost, and rescues J his boy by a sensational dive under - water. With Hobart Bosworth are Lloyd Hughes, Grace Darmond, and! Gladys George, and their.work is excellent. Roseoe Arbuckle, in the role of a sheriff, in "The Bound-up," has a seriocomic role of which he makes the most. The plot of the picture is logical andconvincing, and its development takes place in the big out-Wj3st. Irving Cummings, Tom Forman; and Mabel Julienne Scott ai-e co-starred inthis release. With other excellent supports and orchestral accompaniments of a high order the season of the current bill promises to be a record one.
