PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL MEETING.
Members of the Seatoun awl Bays Progressive Association held their annual meeting last evening. Mr. F. Black presided over a good attendance of members.
The Chairman, in opening the meeting, said that the committee had dealt during the year with a variety of subjects, and he felt that they had accomplished something. The amalgamation of the district with the city did not do away with the need of the association ; in fact, some members felt that the association • was all the more necessary in order to look after the interests of the district.
The annual report and balance-sheet (extracts of which have already been published ill The Post) were adopted. Several speakers referred in enthusiastic terms to the work that had been accomplished during the year. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: —President, Mr. A. W. Parton; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. R. Richmond, H. P. Rawson, W. L. Palmer, B. R. Gardner, Captain G. T. Hall, and Rev. R. Inglis; committee, Messrs. H. J. Wyatt, W. Murie, A. Rickard, B. N. Staff, E. A. A. Thome, A. Carey, J. Wilson, J. W. Hall, .S. Campbell, and J. Gibson; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. H..W. Pilcher; auditor, M,y. E. W. A. Kellow. - In thanking members for haying, elected him to the position of president, Mr. Parton referred to several' matters connected with the wolf ire t of the district. The improved tram time-table was very much appreciated, but they still required several improvement*, the chief of which was the provision of a through service in the mornings and evenings. The minimum fare, system had not proved entirely satisfactory. ' Improvements to ' the* tunnel and tho sea-front were r.lso required. Mr. Parton' concluded by complaining of the apathy of many of the residents. In the future he wanted to see them taking f a wholehearted interest in the welfare of the district.
