Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., presided at th« Magistrate's .Court to-day. Mary Aggies M'Dowell, charged with tho theft of a ring valued at £40, the property of Bertie Fleming Kelly, was remanded till Wednesday. Bail was fixed at £100, with sureties of like amount. ,
Samuel Costain was fined 10s for a second offence of. drunkenness, and William Ross James, charged with helpless drunkenness, 20s.
Daniel Higgins, a seaman on the steamer Viking Star, was convicted of having unlawfully absented himself From his ship for* tho second time within a. week, and was sent to gaol for a week. Proceedings were taken by &{r. R. T. Bailey, Inspector of Shops and Offices, against 'shopkeepers who had failed to .cl,OBo their promises as required by their several requisitions. J. J. -Annand was convicted and ordered to pay costs; J. Eager was fined 10s and oosta; H. L. Simpson was fined 10s and costs, and Sun. Tni Wah was ordered to pay 7s costs.
William. Ludlow was "charged as the owner of a dangerous dog, bill after hearing- tho evidence, the Magistrate merely, issued a warning and dismissed the inforimition.
