The home team batted first, and at 1 p.m. had scored 48 runs for two wickets. Ransford caught Jacobsen at square leg smartly for 10, and Bradbum was clean bowled b.y Ironmonger after making 8. Cane, one of the two first batsmen, is batting confidently, with his score at 21. Paterson, the Hawkea Bay captain, joined Cane, and it promises to be a good partnership. The fieldinpr is'excellent.
