MEETING OF THE BOARD,
The Weellington Harbour Bbai'd met last evening! Present: Messrs. J. G. Haa'kness (chairman), M Cohen,' R. T. Sinclair, R. A. ; Wright, M.P., A. D. M'Leod, M.P., J. G. Cobbe,' J. W. M'fiwain, M. W. Welch, 0. H. Chanmam, 0. E. Daniell, 0. M. Tuirell, 0. J. B. Norwood, andi Captain' 0. M'Arthur.
Prior to the prdanary business, a special meeting was held to adopt and pass bylaw amendments approved last month, arid since formally exhibited for the registering of objections. The, necessary resolution was earned, bringing the amendments into force on Ist March. The most important new provision is that when extra cost in handling cargo is incurred by the board through the granting of special extra rates of pay to its'casual workers under the provisions of any industrial agreement to which the board is a party, or from any other cause, additional wharfage on the cargo affected by the- special extra, rates j of pay so paid shall be charged* to and be papable by (a) the consignees of inward and transhipment cargo, and (b) the consignors of outward cargo, as follow :■—On inward cargo, for every Id per hour extra pay per man, 2d per ton; on transhipment cargo, 3d per ton; on outward cargo, Id per ton. . • ■ The monthly financial summary showed credit balances as follows :—Current account, £62,650 13s sd; imprest ac* count, £4369 17s 7d; on fixed deposit, £130,000. Payments were shown to total £51,937 8s Bd, made up of interest, accounts, claims, and wages, £48,900 5s 6d; progress payment of contract £1429 0s 8d; and' salaries for February £1608 2s'6d. ' / t A report on th© Board's Superannuation Fund showed that the year began with a credit balance of £45 4 676. Staff contributions 'totalled £5802; the board's subsidy was £3771; and interest and bonus interest amounted, to £2018.Allowances from the fund • totalled £2018, and the balance remaining to credit of. the fund was £55,526 6s Id. Members expressed complete satisfaction with the position thus daeclosed. During the evening a discussion of the present industrial dispute on the waterfront took place. It is reported elsewhere.
