HALF-YEARLY MEETING.

The half-yearly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants was- held yesterday, delegates from all centres of the Dominion) being in attendance. The chair was occupied, by the president, Mr. Walter Green, of Dunedin.

" Important- business .dealing with -?the profession of accountancy generally was transacted, and the following points were given special consideration. ' In connection with the conduct and standard of the society's examinations, a sub-com-mittee consisting of Messrs. Ernest W. Htint and C M. Bowden, was set up to confer with the Senate of the New Zealand University and bring befor& that body several matters requiring consideration. , '.

With regard to the conduct of audits of public companies undertaken by persons other than members of the society, it was resolved to approach all solicitors in practice in the Dominion requesting them to insert in the articles of association of public companies a clause to the effect that the audits of such companies must be conducted by members of the society registered as public accountants.

A report from a sub-committee regarding :the audit of solicitors' trust accounts was brought forward, and after discussion it xvas resolved to "publish same for the information <of members conducting such audits. ... , ' ..

At a special general meeting of members held later it was. unanimously' resolved that the subscriptions of public accountants and registered accountants be raised. Of the^ increased amount it is the intention of the council to allocate a. set \ amount from each member to the credit of the Benevolent Fund. The feeling of the' members at the saeeting regarding the fund showed that it was the desire that the activities of the society in this direction' should beexlended. '. '
