FIRE AT PETONE

A fire occurred in a, dwelling', owned and occupied by Mr.' B. C. Kirk, Nel-son-str&et, Potonßj about 11 a.m. today. Painters were at work burning, off paint on the exterior of tile building, and it is , presumed the walls 'must have, caught fire by this means. The Fire Brigade was' quickly on tb© scene, and iil the meantime a bucket brigade, composed of the painters and inmates, had been busy. The fire was only got under after considerable damage had been done to the wall, lower and upper ceil-, ings, and roof of the building, which is of two storeys. The loss by fire-water, and smoke is estimated at well over £100 to t-be contents;, and probably over £1100 to the building. Complaints were made at the poor pressure of the water supply. Mr. Woodward, driver of tho fire engine, in attempting to smash in a window, had Ms hand lacerated, and had,to receive medical attention. •
