AUSTRALIA v. MANAWATU
(SI TM»BAP».—TODS* A3SOCSATKW.). PALMEP.STON N., 15th Feb. Great interest was displayed to-day in a cricket match commenced on the sports ground between the Visiting Australians and a Mariawatu eleven. The weather vas glorious, and tho attendance was well over 1000. Mauawatu batted first, avid contrary to tho general expectation' made a • very determined stand. I'foe'y were dismissed for 172 runs. Their batting was;" not sstrong, but their display ol fielding later in tho day eclipsed • that of the Australians. Tho local bowlers, Greer and Harrison, shaped weil at the start of th'Ar attack, but towards the end of the day their performance fell very Hat. .. The Australians gave a very fine display of batting. They did hot linger at the wickets, but hit. out at everything at all likely to produce reaults. Their bowling and fielding were a pleasure to watch, and very little got past them. They have' lost five wickets tor 196 runs, and Australia's recognised best batsmen have yet to play. Thesp are Ransford, Dr. Bogle, arid Richardeon, with Kippax and Liddicut, who are still in. Scores :— - MANAWATU. First Innings. A. M. Ongley, c Liddicut, b Aeher 6 A. Rose, rua out 46 K.
