The Australian cricketers arrived last evening, and were welcomed at a reception this morning by the Mayor. The match against Manawatu commenced at 1 o'clock. The home men ar» batting with eleven men instead of the fifteen allowed by the Australians. The weather is perfect for the match. Later. Mana-watu batted first. Buns came very slowly, but gradually. the batsmen opened up and o4 runs had been made in the first half-hour for the loss of one wicket. 1

The following players were selected to represent Manawatu.:—Ongley, Boss, M'Vicar, Leet, K. Hodder, Pegden, M. Hodder, Greer, M'Neeley, Harrison, and Law. As it was understood-that the Australians had expressed their willingness to allow Manawatu'to send 15 men to the wicekts on the understanding that the usual eleven were used for fielding, the following four extra players were chosen : Cullen, Mullins, Stockwell, and Lye.
