A TRAGEDY
MURDER AND ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
SEQUEL TO QUARREL WITH
FATHER- AND SON,

DARGAVILLE, This Day.
A fearful murder and attempted suicide occurred at Marohemo, near Mauugaturoto, yesterday morning at 8 o'clock, when -a father murdered his son," and then attempted suicide. It appears the son, William Rawlin Needham, aged eighteen year?, was busy separating cream, \vhe;n an altercation took place with the father, Thomas Needham, aged sixty-five. The father picked up a broom, knocked the son down, and belaboured him with tho broom till he was killed. The body wns frightfully knocked about. When the father realised his act, he cut his own throat with a knife. This being ineffectual!, ho secured a rope to.hang | himself, but was too weak to carry lus j intention into effect. Constable Boag was promptly on tho scene, and had Needham, senr., removed to tlvo Paparoa. Hospital, The wound is not likely to prove fatal. A preliminary inquest will be held at Mtiuiigaturoto jw-day,
