LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP

TO-DAY'S RESULTS

The Wellington Ladies' Animal Provincial Gold Championship and Handicap Tournament was continued at Heretaunga this morning, when thp first round of the championship proper wns played, together with a. bogey handicap. The weather was dull but fine, and the links in good order. The results in the first round of the championship were :— Mrs. G. Williams (Masterton) beat Mrs. E. Knight (Dannevirke),' 5 up and 4. .

Mrs. D. Anderson (Shirley] beat Miss Withers (Miramar), 5 up and 3.

Miss L. Brandon (Wellington) beat Miss E. Matthews ]Hutt), 3 up and 1.

Miss E. Brown (Napier) beat Mrs. R. M. M'Lean (Hawera), 6 up and 4.

Mrs. L. Marton (Palmerston North beat Miss P. Anderson '(Shirloy), 4 up and 3.

Mrs. Widdop (Miramar) beat Miss R-. Harris (Hagley), 3 up and 2. Miss Gambrill (Miramar) beat Mtes M. Wheeler (Miramar), 4 up and 3.

Mrs. Marchbanks (Wellington) beat Miss M. Payton (Auckland), 4 up and 3. To-morrow the following will play in the second round :—

Mrs. Williams plays Miss D. Anderson.

Miss L. Brandon plays Miss E. Brown. Mrs. L. Morton plays Mrs. Widdop. Miss Gambrill plays Mijs. Marchbanks.

In addition, there will be a medal handicap. The tie between Misses M'Cormick (Auckland), M. Ward (Wellington), and Withers (Miramar) for sixteenth p:;>ce m the qualifying round for the cnarapio:iship was played off yesterday afternoon, Miss Withers being successful. The first Medal Handicap was divided into two sections—handicaps up to 15 and handicaps over 15. The respective winners were Miss M. Pavtoit (Auckland), 86-6—Bo, and Miss M. Ward (Wellington), 97-18—79. The splendid condition of the links was mainly due to the care .and attention of Mr. Milligan and his staff.
