UNESSENTIAL BUILDING

At a well-attended meeting of the central branch of the New Zealand Labour Patty, held last night, the following motion was carried unanimously : "As those responsible for the deplorable lack of adequate housing in New Zealand are continually pleading the lack of sufficient labour and building materials as the prime cause thereof, this meeting draws the Government's attention to the large number'of unessential large buildings now in course of erection —for which ample quantities of material and labour appear to be readily available. Further, we call upon the Labour members to force upon the Government the. wisdom and necessity of at once' refusing build, ing permits for any other than residential construction."
