CITY AND HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.

Some discussion took place at the meeting of the Wellington Industrial' Association last night on the hydro-elec-tric scheme and the probable price of power-to the city. Mr. C. J. Ward, chairman, stated that manufacturers considered the present schemes With some concern in view of the heavy cost. Could the city afford it, he asked; could power be secured in Wellington at a price, to compare with the cost per unit in other centres? In view of the capitalised amount of If million pounds on Mangahao, he believed they should be careful and set up a committee to secure evidence from the Wellington City Council and other bodies on the scheme, bo that when the proposals came forward they could advise their, manufacturers. Mr. A. C. Mitchell said that the Evans Bay site for the power-house was a, strong argument in the City Council's favour. A committee would find the undertaking .-• difficult.
