I AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.)

(Received October 13, 10 a.m.)

NEW YORK, 11th October

The Australian Press Association interviewed Sir Thomas Mackenzie, who, following the Toronto Conference of Chambers of Commerce, visited Boston and Washington, and addressed the Chambers of Commeroe. He remarked that the market is generally uncertain, and said : "I will put before the people, upon my return to New Zealand, the question whether it would be better to develop the United States, market for primary products, in spite of a possibly high tariff, after the American elections, or to continue the development of the British market and commerce.

"I have been inquiring into the possibilities of trade between New Zealand and the United States and Canada. I visited the docks here, and saw New Zealand meat discharged i-j»> excellent condition. Lambs are much appreciated here, but mutton is in. poor demand. British wholesale lamb, prices are now much higher than in the United States.

"I find a feeling in the United States towards Britain far more cordial than I anticipated. lam a strong supporter of Lord Desborough's proposal for the establishment of an international Chamber of Commerce for the exchange and** distribution of trade statistics and information concerning products and commerce. Such a Chamber would fill a long-standing need."

Sir Thomas Mackenzie is leaving' for New Zealand on 13th October.
