ADDRESS AT WELLINGTON SOUTH

An address was delivered before memberß of the Wellington South group of the Potestant Political Association by Rev. Howard Elliott laat QvenTng. Tlie Rev. David Neild preeided.

With reference to the discussions on the marriage law ; Mr. Elliott eaid that he had reoently received two certificates for the marriage of one couple, who were married at Hamilton in 1908, and were entered up by the registrar as "bachelor" or "spinster.", the girl being a. Roman Catholic. Later, when they were again married in the Roman Catholic Church the parties were again described as "bachelor" and "spinster." Those certificates were genuine originals. The P.P.A did not trouble-itself as to what was taught! inside a church, but it would step in when any church sought to go outside to enforce its doctrines in defiance of the country's laws. The meeting unanimously adopted a motion urging- the Government to pass ac law the proposed amendment to the Marriage Act at present before Parliament without diminishing its scope or eftect.

A vote of thanks was accorded the speaker.
