MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Only two inebriates were on the charge sheet presented to Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning. One was a first offender, and was dealt with according to \ scale. Elizabeth Musgiove, l with two previous convictions, was fined 10s and prohibited. Charles Baughey, charged on remand ■with being an incorrigible rogue and vagabond (found by night without lawful excuse on enclosed premises), was sentenced to three months" hard labour. Two boys ware charged with having broken into Archibald Chrjatensen's motor farage and stolen a quantity of goods. üb-Inspector Emerson agreed to a suggestion that as the boys are only 16£ years of age their cases should be taken in the Juvenile Court on Saturday This course was agreed to by the Magistrate, and the br-ys were remanded accordingly, until Saturday. ' '
Eric Reginald Lister., charged with theft of goods from,the Midland Hotel, where he was a waiter, was admitted to probation for twelve months. Basil Harry Fleming pleaded not guilty to having received the goods stolen by the previous defendant. Mr. A. B. Sievwright appeared for the defendant, who pleaded notguilty. Chief Detective Ward said the silver goods, which were found in defendant's possession, all bore the mark "Midland Hotel." Lister said he knew Fleming, who asked him to get some silver from^ita hotel. He told Fleming that the siK'Q^^ts branded, but he got the silver and jHBk it 'to Fleming. In answer to Mr-iTmovwrighl, Lister said he did not make tho original offer to Fleming. Fleming knew the goods were stolen. To Chief Detective Ward witness said he got no money from Fleming for the goods. Detective Torrance said that Fleming, when spoken to, said he did not know that the goods belonged to the Midland Hotel, but as soon as ho found they bore the hotel brand he made up his mind to get into communication with Lister, but ho had not been able to speak to him before the police arrived. After hearing accused's evidence, his Worship imposed a fine of i£lo, in default two months' hard labour.
