First and second in the Gimcrack hail from Victoria. Furious (The Welkin —Dariaide) is owned by her breeder, Mr. E. E. D. Clarke. Even Song, bred and owned by Mr. Norman Falkiner, is by Land of Song—Yippingale, an imported mare" by William the Third—Chekndry, by Goldfinch—llluminata. Sweet Memory, will make her first appearance this reason in the Flying Handicap at Masterton. In the presence of her owner,' she galloped down half a mile pleasingly at headquarters on Saturday morning. The Maniapoto tribe generally race best when fresh. The Hawkes Bay winner Rouen' has incurred 71b penalty in the Flying Handicap at Maeterton. The penalty increases his weight to 7.5, the same that he won with at Hastings. Bonnie Maid and Dainty Step, both of whom are engaged in the Masterton Cup, were tried ont over a distance of a mile and a-quarter at headquarters on Saturday morning. Carrying lightweights they were evenly matched, although Bonnie Maid had a. slight advantage at the post. They will be accompanied to Masterton by Astinome, Happy Days, and Silk Rein. ~' ;
The stabling accommodation at the course has been fully Booked up, and Mr. W. M'Conkey has had to refuse several trainers.
'"" During the Australian trip Vespucci ran one first, two seconds, and one unplaced out of four starts—a very creditable record. He has only to reproduce his form in the Grantham Stakes, in which he carried 71b over weight-for-age, and was beaten a neck in 2min 6|sec, to have a good chance in the Champion Plate at Trentham.

War Scare has previously produced fi.Ve* colts in succession, Bjorneberg, Finmark, Estland, and-Fingon being amongst them.
The following penalties have been incurred for the Masterton Meeting:— Masterton Cup : Tenterfield, 71b. Lansdowne Handicap: Lord Astolat, 71b. Flying Handicap : Rouen, 71b. , Since the winter meeting at Wellington the weighing enclosure at Trentham has been considerably enlarged.
