OTHER PROTESTS.

Speaking at the Taranaki-street Methodist Sunday School anniversary service last night, the Rev. H. E. Bellhousedated that the president of the conference had asked that action be taken against the Gaming Amendment Bill. The preacher understood that there was a possibility, unless very strong action was taken, of the Bill passing through the House. He was sure that the majority of thoee present that night recognised how undesirable it was that such a Bill should be. passed. The following motion was passed :—"That this congregation of the Tnra-naki-stre&t Methodist Church strenuously protests against tho Gaming Amendment Bill now before Parliament, whereby it is proposed to increase- the number of days on which totalisator permits may be issued by 38, and strongly urges that such measurebe not passed into law."

Protests on similar-lines were made at the Island Bay Methodist Church, the Donald M'Lean-street Methodist Church, and other churches throughout the district.

A motion protesting against the proposal to provide additional totalisator permits waa carried unanimously by two large congregations at the Lower'Hutt Methodist Church yesterday.
