TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION
STRONG PROTEST AGAINST DELAY. A crowded meeting of tho Wellington Typographical Union was held on Saturday evening, in the Trades Hall. The following motions weio carried unanimously :— "That this meeting condemns the action of the Labour Department in withholding the publication of the Typographers' Award, and considers the Department has no right to delay publication, particularly as the item deemed to bo ultra vires was a Conciliation, agreement, and could, if necessary, have been amended later by an application to the Court. Further, as the clause objected) to has no bearing on the terms of the! award, relating to wages, bonus, and conditions to be recognised by tho employers, we aro of opinion it has heeni used as a pretext to delay the whole award."
"That after considering ths clauses in the new award, which were inserted by the Court, this meeting is strongly of the opinion that the master printers and newspaper proprietors have been guilty of a. conspiracy to defeat an award- of the Arbitration Court, and, further, ha-vo attempted to break the Conciliation, agreement which was ratified by the Court."
It was decided to write to the employers, demanding full payment of- back pay to all members by 15th October, tlie executive being given full power to deal with any matters arising until 16th October, when an adjourned meeting of the Union is to be held.
