MIDWIFERY TRAINING
Recently the Minister of Health (Hon. C. J. Parr) stated in the House, of Representatives that he intended to do away with the fee of filp charged to hospital nurses taking a midwifery course in a St. Helens Hospital. Yesterday the Minister, in reply to Mr. J. M'Combs, stated that he found that this would require legislation. "The matron-in-chief had been conferring with tho matrons of the St. Helens Homes, and they were all of opinion that if no fee were charged it might lead to entrants failing to complete the course. It was suggested that a better course would be to charge the fee and refund it to all nurses who completed the six months' course; There was much to be said for this. The Minister stated that in no other country were the charges less or the conditions more favourable for women wishing to obtain training- in midwifery.
