AUSTRALIA'S MANUFACTURES
BRITISH OPINION SUMMARISED. (UNITED PKESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.) (AB3TRALIAN ■ NEW ZEALAND CABIE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, 6tb October. Mr. M'Qregor, Australian Trade Commissioner, has completed his tour of the industrial centres. In an interview vrith the representative of the Australian Press Association, he said he found the greatest interest manifested_ in Australian trade conditions, particularly the development of manufacture, which "ivas not regarded as a menace «to British tiade, but as a welcome sign of the growth of a young nation tending eventually to increased commercial relations with the Motherland. Many inquiries were made a? to Australian labour, and the questioners pointed out that manufacture on modern lines without reasonable labour co-operation was almost impossible.
" Mr. M'Gregor found Bradford sympathetically interested in Mr. Sterling Taylor's Australian wool mamifacturing scheme, and there also was some criticism. It was difficult for Bradford to appreciate the driving force behind the Australian proposals. It was also probably difficult for Australians to understand the difficulties and complexities of woollen manufacture.
Mr. M'Gregor was gratified with the improvement in th© works, organisation, and equipment of British industries during the past few years. The outstanding feature at present was the unrest and irritability which were the outcome of the war. Some little time would elapse before readjustments were made. Meanwhile powerfnl efforts would have to be made to place industries on a sound economical basis.
He ui-ges oversea, friends to exercisie patience with the generally non-com-municative manufacturers, who were grappling with many difficulties.
Mr. M'Greeor will sail for Melbourne on 29th October.
Mr. Milne, late Australian Commisl--sioner, has returned from Cuba, and joined the permanent headquarters in London.
