BANK ADVANCES RESTRICTED

LONDON, 4th,October. Owing to delay in the proceeds of Australia's exports reaching London, the .Australian Press learns that a considerable demand has fallen on the cash resources of the Australian banks in London, which as a precaiitionary measure are now not negotiating drafts against shipments, except for their own customers. It is understood that this state of affairs is largely due to the greatlyincreased price of commodities, which in some cases are three times their pre-war values. Similar conditions prevail in ■many parts of the world, notably South 'America and the Far East.
