HARDING POLICY

REPLY TO AUSTRALIAN

QUESTIONS

THE COMMUNITY OF NATIONS

"JUST TO ALL PEOPLES."

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.)

(AUSTRALIAN - NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received October 6, 10 a.m.) l- NEW YORK, sth Ootober.

The Australian Press Association has telegraphed to Senator Harding the following questions : In the community of nations which you advocate instead of the Versailles League of Nations, what provisions would be made for the representation of the British Dominions? There is a tendency among the Dominions to seak to establish virtually independent, diplomatic representatives in Washington. Would you encourage this? Would you, as President, advocate any form of co-operation between Australia and the Ignited States in patrolling and safeguarding the interests ■of civilisation in the Pacific?

Senator Harding has replied through his secretary as follows :—"lf I am vested with responsibility in connection with the foreign relations of the United States, it is my hope and purpose to work out, in concert with the representatives of other nations and with the advice and co-operation of the most ablest minds in America, plans and policies which will be just to all peoples and all Governments. I will not attempt now or hereafter to speak for the American people or the Republican Party, except as I am commissioned and by the electors of the .country and the elected representatives or party."
