ROOM FOR A CENTURY'S EXPANSION

Sir Thomas Mackenzie, in an interview, said he did not expect difficulties in the renewal of a satisfactory AngloJapanese Treaty. The Imperial Conference would safeguard Australasia, and Japan had too many troubles at home to make troubles abroad. The late Dr. ■Morrison (Political Adviser to the Chinese Government) had assured him recently that Japan had ample room for expansion in Formosa and Manchuria for a hundred years, and that it was unnecessary for her to invade the Pacific or Australasia.
