WATERSIDERS' BAND RECITAL.
The recital given by the Waterside Workers' Band in the Grand Opera House last evening proved another unqualified success. Notwithstanding the wretched state of the weather there was a very large attendance, and the audience was rewarded by a truly delightful programme. Under -the able conductorship of Mr. J. J. Drew the band was in excellent form, and distinguished itself by its fine rendering of F. Crowther's descriptive "Guardians of Peace." This number, the brilliant composition of.the wellrknown Wellington musician, is designed to illustrate the approach, passing by, and gradual disappearance! of an Allied patrol, and made such an impression that the band was obliged to repeat it as an encore. Other items which were specially well played by the band were the overture
"Northern Lights" (Hans Flattl, selection "Lortzing" (an\ Round), and Rimmer's march "The President." The band numbers were interspersed with vncal and instrumental items, which proved ins;:-5 enjoyable. Mr. Harry Phipps arid Miss Ohvyn Davies were encored for their vocal numbers. Mr. Frank Cruwthar M>t*d v Koomoasut.
