EXTRA TRIMMERS WANTED

SYDNEY, 26th August. Shipping trouble is threatened owing to the seamen demanding the employment of extra trimmers on steamers. Owing to the refusal of the demand a Commonwealth steamer is held up at Sydney and a collier at Melbourne. Similar claims will be made as other vessels reach port. In conneption with the demand for more trimmers aboard steamers, the employers state that all the vessels already carry the number required by. the Navigation Act. Negotiations between the Steamship Owners; Federation and the Seamen's Union resulted in tha appointment of a Manning Committee; representative of both sides, to deal with the demands on (their merits forthwith.
