POLAND MAKES DEMANDS
(Received August 24, 9 a.m.) PARIS, -23rd August. Poland now demands' that the Soviet Government shall grant self-determina-tion to all the peoples formerly included in Poland, and also effective guarantees against Soviet interference in the internal affairs of Poland. The Journal's Warsaw correspondent states that the Poles insist on the recognition of Ukrainian independence. Some critics describe this demand as contrary to the British and American programmes respecting the integrity of - the territories of former Russia, and say this is the principal"obstacle to peace. (Received August 24, 9 a.m.)' ■<$.'■ VIENNA, 23rd August.. v The Polish press is unanimously demanding the rejection of the Bolshevik terms, and it is expected that the Minsk negotiations will fajl. LONDON,*2Ist August. It is believed that the'Bolsheviks are keeping the Polish envoys at Minsk in ignorance of their retreat.'
