CONCERT IN CHURCH.
A most enjoyable concert.was given in W'esley Church* Taranaki-street,. last evening by Mr. Temple White (organ), Mr. Frank Johnstone ('cello), and Mr. Reginald Blow (baritone). Mr. White's numbers,' exquisitely played, .included "Marche. Solenelle" .and "Cantilina" (Mailly), Prelude in G Major, and "Sarabande" (Bach), "Romance (Zitterbart), and "Rhapsodic Serieuse" (VodoTinski). Mr. Johnstone, who here' made his farewell appearance' in New Zealand—and he will be greatly missed .—opened \vith the ; andante from Klengel's Concerto (Op. 10). His other numbers were an air and gavotte of Handel, a cantilene of Goltemann, and a canzbnetta of d'Ambrosio. Mr. Johstone was in excellent form. Judging by th© spirited nature of the applause, his .efforts were very greatly appreciated. There were expressions of regret at Mr. Johnstone's approaching departure for Australia, after the many years he has been playing and teaching in Wellington. Mr. Blow's- numbers were : "It is'- Enough" (■with 'celloitobligato) from "Elijah," "O Star of Eve" from "Tannhauser," and "Thou Art Passing Hence" (from "The Martyr of Antioch." He sang with much spirit and some dramatio power in the "Elijah" solo, and was' vigorously applauded. The audience was not large, but it was apparently in thorough sympathy with the performeTS.
"The Follies," a, clever troupe of returned soldiers who are raiding funds in aid of crippled comrades, made their first appearance at the Khandallah Town Hall on Wednesday evening, *when a programme of Musical and . comical items was presented to a- packed' house 1. . The company comprised Messrs. Percy, StVinger (accompanist), Gilmore (tenor), F. Betchley and Taxas.Grey (comedians), T.S. Philpott (expert juggler), and Jack Meek. All proved that, they were, artists of no mean order, and kept the audience thoroughly amused and delighted throughout the evening. The entertainment, which was one of the best ever presented at Khandallah, concluded with the grand finale "Don't Forget! There's Someone in New Zealand" by the company.. \
