"AUSTRALIA'S WILD NORTH-WEST."

To-day Mr. M. P. Adams presented at the Empress Theatre .the remarkable cinematographic record of the investigations and travels of the North-West Scientific Expedition of Australia, The film depicts conditions at the great pearl fisheries at Broome, and later in the almost unknown coastal country to the west of that port, the country of which de Rougemont wrote. Broome, to judge by the film, is neither, an efficient port nora pleasant residential town, but the section of the film devoted ,to the pearling industry is intensely interesting. Some at least of de Rougemont's tales are borne out by the picture; his turtle riding exploits, for instance, were successfully copied by some, of the natives, and strange scenes '■ were photographed in native settlements, some of which had never before been visited by whites. Spear throwing, a little of boomerang throwing, sthe dancing at the corroborces, the pursuit of the strange sea, mammal, the dugong, and scenes in the native encampments show how the aborigine lives his life. A unique picture was obtained of the native method of making fire by means of a twirling stick, an accomplishment well-nigh impossible to a white. Other sections of the picture deal with magnificent coral reefs and coastal scenery, the transport of produce from inland by camel trains, and views of the great coastal cattle ranges. t It is a picture with much to recommend it, and should prove a big attraction during the week it will be shown at the Empress Theatre
