AUCKLAND OFFICERS HAVE A LIVELY MEETING

'■'( There- was a lively meeting :,of the Auckland, branch of the.Railway Officers' Institute, held.on Wednesday night. It . .'was resolved to agree to a speciallevy '■ti'hich r': ''was being )' sought ' from |il branches. for .the purpose of, replenishing, the funds of the institute, which fiad been depleted owing to the recent iiegotiations for increased wages and \ improved conditions. At J the conclusion Si formal business (reports th^ Herald) & petition was. presented to tile meeting by the branch secretary (Mr. C. R. Bell), who is also-a member of the Dojhinion executive. The petition expressed, on behalf of its 73 signatories, a ' .."want of .confidence in the executive of '. ■Hie Institute, and called .upon the local ;.'b'rarich committee and : officers, recently to resign and.submit themselves •V for rejection.....The Chairman ruled.that "•'-the- petition .was'out of order, and this ruling led to la heated discussion, culm'inatingiijf.ca motion:..by*;Mr.vßell that .'-*bhe; ruling,Of>:tlie chair bd disapproved. ".'This'motion'also was-.ruled out of order by the Chairman, who left the chair .. and declared'tfie meeting closed.
