August is a critical month for the great com belt in the middle States, but there has been an improvement in all the Start.es except Illinois. The spring wheat was severely affected in July by rust, and the production was reduced by twenty-nine million bushels to a total of 262 millions. The preliminary estimate of the winter wheat is increased by fifteen millions, making the total winter and spring crop 795 million bushels.
