To recognise the debt, which the Dominion owes to the sailors of the Royal Navy and the Mercantile Marine, a scheme was initiated in July, 1918, under which sheepowners would donate all or portion of their profits from the sale of surplus -wool--in' England to a fund to bo called "The New Zealand Sheepowners Acknowledgment of Debt to British Seamen Fund" for the benefit of dependents of sailors of the British Navy and Mercantile Marine who have been wounded or have lost their livps in the defence of the! Empire. A meeting of contributors will be held in the Old Chamber, Parliament Buildings, Wellington, on Wednesday, 18th August, at 10 . a.m. Sheepowners who have not already contributed and who wish to. assign, portion-or whole of their wool profits or make a donation in any form, are requested to communicate with the honorary Eecretary, Box 1109, Wellington. His Honour-Sir John Salmond returned to Wellington from Auckland on Saturday.
