LIGHTING CONNECTIONS
A complaint from a correspondent about ..unfairness.in the allocation o{ electric light connections, in, view of the prevailing shor'tajo'of" material,', is towards a neighbour who is said to have got tho current supplied in spite or the fact that it- took fourteen ■ poles to jieach his whare .from.,the,ie'arest.line.,.,Other" complaints are made also of people beingj supplied ■when others nearei' the transmission lino cannot get current. The reply of tho Electric Light Department of -the. City Council is that in the first caso the consumer supplied, the poles and paid for the.cost of the'installation. In other instances, light ha-j been installed at the discretion,: of the Superintendent where there • are cases of' chronic or sevoro illness .and invalids, who have a prior claim for'-'-consideration. Na other motives -have,been allowed to ..weigh .in ,tho decision, of the department.. There are still about 1000 applications for connections, and no.w that a new supply of condensing water and a now flue for the boilers at the Lighting Station are ready, it is hoped to commence with carrying cut the applications jn 'order.
