MEETING OP THE BOARD

The Board of Governors of the Wellington Technical College met last night, Mr. U. Frost presiding.

Under the heading "Prince of Wales Park Fund," the Director (Mr. J. H. Howell) put in a plea for funds, and added that in the Technical High School the clashes were competing to see which ! could raise the largest sum, "At the request of the Education Department a special examination was arranged for the returned soldiers attending our Clyde-quay classes to enable them to qualify for entering the public service. The examination was held on 28th and 29th June. Twenty-eight of our students and one who came down from Auckland succeeded in passing. Aa the successful candidates ..will no longer attend, it ie ■possible for us.to accommodate the remaining classes in our own building, and, with the consent of the Repatriation Department, these have now been transferred* from Clyde-quay." Mr. Varian, who has been appointed /Inspector in Machinery, resigned his position aa Workshops Instructor in Engineering, and Mr. Denton was temporarily appointed to the position. The 'Minister of Education wrote that very careful consideration would be given _to the question of establishing instructional farms in agriculture. The Secretary to the Industrial Association wrote in support of a motion •passed at its last meeting on the subject of the association's representation on the board. The suggestion was that the association was entitled to separate representation on the board. Mr. L. B. Partridge, on behalf of the association] said the association was practically responsible for having established technical education, yet it had now to face a contest for representation with the School Committees' Association.l The 'Chairman said he did not think that anything could bs done this year, but he was glad to hear that the "association was going to interview the Education Department. They all aipweciated the valuable work that Mr. Partridse ■had done 1 on the board. (Hear, hear.) It was decided that the Directoi" take out a policy of insurance over .the pupils in regard to insurance for accidents to pupils wliil© at school.

The secretary reported that it was -proposed to hold a conference of directors and members of boards at Wellington on 7th September. The chairman «nd Messrs. Laurence and Partridge, with the Director, were appointed delegates to tihe conference.
