LIFTED
EMBARGO ON RACEHORSES
Rumours that the embargo placed on the transport by sea of racehorses by tha unions supporting the Jockeys' Association in its dispute would be lifted shortly was confirmed this afternoon, when >the following statement was issued by the secretai-y of the Transport Workers' Advisory Board (Mr. J. Roberts): —
"The New Zealand Transport Workers' Advisory Board at its meeting this morning considered the jockeys' dispute, and it was decided to remove any embargo in connection with carrying racehorses to and from any part of. New Zealand. This decision was arrived at in view of the fact that a great number of jockeys were in favour of the embargo on racehorses being lifted. The jockeys' dispute has been before the transport workers for a considerable time, and owing to the fact that the jockeys themselves seemed to be somewhat divided over tho issues involved, the transport workers could not undertake to proceed further ivith the case until there was a more unanimous opinion between the members of the Jockeys' Association."
